About Mary Pat Boyd
My name is Mary Pat Boyd. I am a grandmother, a two time
breast cancer survivor, and a jewelry artist. I hope that my
hand crafted jewelry
designs bring attention to
breast cancer awareness and that the
silver jewelry
selections at Boyd Silver Works are inspirational to cancer patients, cancer
survivors, their families, and their friends. Boyd Silver Works offers a large
selection of
breast cancer pink ribbon jewelry, angel jewelry,
cancer jewelry,
sterling silver charms, rings,
breast cancer bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and
one of a kind
hand crafted jewelry. Our
cancer jewelry, and most of our other jewelry, is
sterling silver. All of our jewelry is handcrafted.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes, and one woman in 8 may
develop breast cancer at some point in her life. Early detection plays a vital
role in surviving the disease, so it’s important to have regular mammograms and
do monthly self exams. Mammography is a very useful tool in early breast cancer
detection but it’s important to remember that mammograms don’t identify all
cancer types. My first breast cancer was estrogen-negative and I found the tumor
through self examination, and then it was later detected with a mammogram. My
second breast cancer, Paget’s Disease, occurred within five years of the first
cancer, and I also found that cancer through self examination. However, the
mammogram wasn’t able to determine this second cancer type. Paget’s Disease
manifests itself on the skin surface in an odd psoriasis manner, and there’s
usually an underlying tumor that the mammogram cannot detect. Less than 5% of
all breast cancers are Paget’s Disease. Still, it’s essential that women are
aware of this particular form of breast cancer. Also, please remember that not
all lumps are breast cancer. If you have concerns, phone your doctor and
schedule a check-up. Breast cancer awareness may save your life or that of a
loved one.
BREAST CANCER RIBBONS
In my middle 30’s, my friends and I referred to cancer as the Big C. Cancer was
something we didn’t know much about, didn’t want to know much about, and we sure
as heck didn’t want to get it. In my mid-40’s, the Big C got me though, and it
changed my life and my direction. I didn’t pick this road but, rather, the
breast cancer awareness road picked me. My new path led me to design breast
cancer awareness jewelry and prominently feature breast cancer ribbons within
most of my designs. Every day I hope that my cancer jewelry helps someone
realize a little more about the importance of breast cancer awareness. My
breast
cancer awareness jewelry designs have given a voice to my beliefs, and they’ve
allowed me to devote my attention to worthy causes.
BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS
There’s a unique bond and sisterhood that exists between breast cancer
survivors. Although breast cancer doesn’t define who we are, it often defines
what we choose to do after the disease. I’m very fortunate that my silver
jewelry is used as breast cancer awareness jewelry; and that’s my own brand of
breast cancer advocacy, but I know a lot of other breast cancer survivors who
are advocates in other ways. Many organizations, such as the American Cancer
Society, offer networking where we, as breast cancer survivors, can talk to
recently diagnosed breast cancer patients. If you are interested in something
like this, please contact your local ACS. Also, please speak with your mothers,
your sisters, your nieces, your aunts, and your friends about breast cancer
awareness. We can get the message out there if we all work together.
I hope that you enjoy visiting the Boyd Silver Works online jewelry store and
that you find encouragement and inspiration while viewing my
silver jewelry
collections. Boyd Silver Works is proud of our
breast cancer awareness jewelry
designs and very proud to be a part of breast cancer awareness!
Good health to all,
Mary Pat Boyd
